GREENSBORO — Southern hospitality pays off, earning the Tar Heel State a few spots in Travel and Leisure's 2012 World's Best awards.

Accommodations in Cary, Charlotte, Greensboro and Asheville, all made the list of the magazine's top large city hotels in the continental United States. From the Ritz Carlton in the Queen City, to the Proximity Hotel close to Greensboro's downtown.

The grand bohemian in the mountains of Asheville and Cary's Umstead hotel and spa. Four of North Carolina's gems are gracing the list of Travel and Leisure magazine's top large city hotels in the United States.

The ranking is the result of reader votes. Hospitality leaders say the results should be felt across the state.

"We have a wonderful hospitality grouping within all of North Carolina, whether you go up towards Asheville, out towards Raleigh or down towards Charlotte. There is just a great example of hospitality and of taking care of people. Really I look at it as creating great awareness of the city of Charlotte and also creating great awareness for the state of North Carolina," said service manager of the Proximity Hotel Tony Villier.

The list is slated to be released in the August issue of Travel and Leisure magazine, which hits store shelves on Sunday.
