Are your holiday lights broken? Do you need to invest in some new ones? Whatever you do, don’t buy the traditional ones ever again. Do your part this holiday by plugging in strands of LED lights instead.
Not only will the switch save energy, it also adds up to big money savings. Here’s what you need to know: LED stands for light emitting diode. These lights use less energy than any other type of bulb. They are also cool to the touch, which dramatically cuts down on the risk of fire. And they’ll last up to 20,000 hours, which translates to about 40 holiday seasons.
Each LED string of lights will cost you a few dollars more than the incandescent variety. However, the payoff comes down the road in your energy bill, and with the fact that LEDs will last a whole lot longer.
If you still have old incandescent lights around, don’t throw them out. You can donate working ones to places like Goodwill or check out holidayleds.com. They’ll recycle the lights, recycle the box they come in and send you a coupon for your next LED purchase.
Here’s one last holiday light tip, think about investing in timers for holiday lights rather than leaving them on all night. It’s just another way to do your part to save energy, reduce pollution and keep some green in your pocket during the holiday season.
