CHARLOTTE – Hundreds of college students lined up for their chance at getting the H1N1 vaccine Monday. UNC Charlotte and Johnson and Wales University started clinics and will continue until they run out of the vaccine.

A long line formed at the clinic in Charlotte within minutes.

The school received a total of 4,000 doses of the injection and nasal spray.

“This is just the first go-around of this,” Dr. Robert Jones, medical director of the Students Health Center at UNCC, said. “We don't know how much we'll get or when that shipment might come. We want to get as many people as possible.”

With 24,000 students on campus, officials want to prevent a flu outbreak. And students were glad to get the shot right on campus.

“I got the flu shot, seasonal flu shot, three days ago because it's getting cold now and so I came for this one to be prevented with all flues that are around,” sophomore Santiago Cruz said.

UNC Charlotte expects to receive more vaccines, but some students didn't want to wait and run the risk of missing the vaccine.

Johnson and Wales only received 100 doses of the vaccination for its clinic. Both schools hope tog et more students vaccinated as more doses become available.
