A small group of demonstrators stood for peace Saturday in the small Iredell County town of Harmony. Armed with signs and flags they spoke out against a scheduled rally and cross burning by the Ku Klux Klan and it appears their plan worked. Neighbors say members of the Loyal White Knights' made a brief appearance Saturday afternoon, then left the area.

A Mt. Airy man is dead and police are searching for the gunmen they believe shot him during an armed robbery. Investigators say it happened around 11:50 p.m. Friday at Eddie's Zip Food Store on North Andy Griffith Parkway.

One man is dead and another man and woman are in critical condition after a head-on collision in front of Mount Airy Middle School. It happened just before 5 p.m. Friday on Hamburg Street. There's no word on a cause, or the victims' conditions or identities.

Grammy-winning folk musician Doc Watson has regained some strength after undergoing colon surgery at a North Carolina hospital. Agent Mitch Greenhill of Folklore Productions said in an email Friday that Watson is resting and responsive following the surgery Thursday at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.

The Ku Klux Klan is planning a rally and cross burning Saturday in the Iredell County community of Harmony. Residents of Reidsville, about 75 miles away, were surprised to find flyers about the event in their driveways this week.

Before the flag drops at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for the Coca Cola 600, fans warmed up their wheels with, what else, a nice glass of wine. Richard Childress Racing and Childress Vineyards hosted a full day of events for fans on Friday.

Still no verdict after six days of jury deliberations. Judge Catherine Eagles said all legal counsel and the defendant, John Edwards, could be excused from the courthouse during deliberations. So while 12 men and women decide the fate for Edwards and the six charges brought against him, Edwards was caught on camera just down the street at a baseball game.

The judge in the John Edwards trial says she is dealing with a juror issue and she is warning the panel not to deliberate outside the jury room or in small groups. U.S. District Judge Catherine C. Eagles dismissed the panel until Tuesday after its sixth day of deliberations.

Greensboro Police say thieves have stolen dozens of new tires and rims off trucks at a half-dozen commercial trucking companies. The thefts started in February and since that time over a half dozen commercial truck companies have been hit.

Insurance industry evaluators were in Greensboro on Friday taking a closer look at how well the fire department puts out fires. The group gives ratings to departments throughout the U.S. Only about 1 percent of the fire departments, including Greensboro, have the highest rating with the insurance services office.

Jurors have moved into a sixth day of deliberations in the John Edwards campaign finance trial and there is no indication whether or not a verdict will come down Friday. If there is no verdict, deliberations will resume Tuesday.

State Rep. Larry Womble has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle, in connection to a deadly accident back in December. He made his first appearance at the legislature this week since the accident.

Master flatpicker Doc Watson is in a North Carolina hospital after falling at his home in Deep Gap earlier this week. A spokeswoman at Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem said Watson was still being evaluated, and doctors didn't have a condition for him.

Students at General Greene Elementary saw some real-life examples of the technology they've been learning about in the classroom. In addition to learning about medical technology students got to see some robotics in action. The robot was designed and built by college students, and picks up and shoots basketballs.

Tournament Town hosts ACC baseball fans this week and downtown businesses are joining the fan cheers. The city of Greensboro is holding this year's ACC baseball tournament at NewBridge Bank Park, home of the Greensboro Grasshoppers. It's only the second time the city has hosted the event.
