RALEIGH — The mother of murder victim Michelle Young took the stand in her son-in-law's murder re-trial Friday.
Jason Young is being tried a second time for the murder of his pregnant wife in 2006. The judge in Young's first trial declared a mistrial when the jury deadlocked last summer. Linda Fisher gave personal details about the defendant, claiming he acted young, immature, and his relationship with Michelle Young was “not ideal”. Linda Fisher said that Jason Young chose to occupy his free time by taking part in sporting leagues, even though Michelle Young had asked him to cut back on the leagues to help out more at home.
Linda Fisher testified that she also witnessed several fights, some of which were “screaming matches with doors slamming”. Fisher said she reached out to the defendant's mother in an attempt to help the couple mend their relationship. Fisher said she also recalled a negative personality change in Michelle Young shortly before the time she was murdered.
“I was sitting on the couch and she had her head in my lap. And I was stroking her hair because she loved when I stroked her hair. I felt like she was holding void of life,” said Linda Fisher.
On Thursday, an eyewitness testified that the defendant was traveling the day Michelle Young was murdered. Gas station clerk Gracie Calhoun said she saw Jason Young that morning at her Stokes County gas station.
Jason Young has testified that he was at a hotel in Virginia when Michelle Young was murdered in their Wake County home.
