MCAS-CHERRY POINT — Nearly 50 Marines are back home in North Carolina following a nearly seven month deployment in Afghanistan.
Friends and family welcomed back Marine aerial refueler transport squadron 252 at MCAS-Cherry Point, on Saturday. The squadron, also known as Otis, is the oldest continually active squadron in the Marine Corps.
Officials say they are proud of the squadron's dedication.
"The Marines never wavered in their commitment. They knew what we were doing. One of the things we tried to do was periodically throughout the detachment was to remind them of why we were there and what we were doing," said Maj. John Butler.
Lance Cpl. Nicolas Mouriski reunited with his family and already has plans in place for what he will do next.
"Go get a warm meal. We've been just skipping around for a couple of places and now, I just want to eat with my family. That's the most important thing," said Mouriski.
More than 100 other Marines from the 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing returned to Cherry Point Saturday after deployments to Afghanistan. Sunday, 30 more come home after a year in Helmand Province.
