RALEIGH – A panel of judges says two lawsuits challenging the state's redistricting maps can move forward.
The three superior court judges declined to dismiss more than half the claims filed by Democratic officials, election watchdogs and civil rights groups.
Lawyers for the state wanted the suits dismissed completely.
The maps will still be used for the May primary.
The plaintiffs in the case released a statement about the court's decision:
“We are pleased that the major claims in the lawsuit remain. We look forward to the opportunity to fully proving the significant constitutional flaws in all three redistricting plans and the manner in which those plans violate the rights of all North Carolina citizens.”
