GREENSBORO — It was one big celebration for the Page High School Pirates Monday, the first day back on campus following the weekend's big game.

On Saturday, the Pirates capped off their undefeated season with a win against Garner in the 4-AA State Championship game, the first Page football team to win the title since the 1980's.

"They had a goal they had a mission, and we could tell pretty early that this was going to be a pretty different team,” said Page H.S. Head Football Coach Kevin Gillespie.

While it is a big school, players and coaches agree, it was the support from the tight knit community that helped them win the big game.

"The students just coming out to the games, making noise on 3rd down when the defense was trying to make a stop, it just meant a lot,” said Senior Wide Receiver Brian Spain.

The support continued Monday both on the field and in the stands, as the community showed their Pirate pride. Fan Austin Bagwell said being in the stands for every game of the season helped make the year a dream come true for the team.

"I will never forget this for the rest of my life. It's just amazing, I'm loving it,” said Senior Wide Receiver, Orlando Hatfield.

Two other triad teams walked away with State Championship titles. West Stokes beat Kinston 21-14 in the 2-AA match-up. And Northern Guilford won their second straight 3-AA championship with a 31-7 win against Crest High School.
