North Carolina has no shortage of star power on the gridiron, and in this week's Discount Tire High School All-Star segment, we introduce you to a Broughton running back who will be taking his talents to the ACC.

RALEIGH – When Chris Mangus enters a room, it causes quite a stir, but don't expect the Broughton senior to return the favor.

“He's not going to get in their face and rah-rah and stuff, he going to lead by example,” Coach Martin Quick said.

And Mangus has set quite an example. A quiet honor-roll student in the classroom, the all-Cap 8 Conference back lets his prodigious game do the talking – he's racked up nearly 4,000 all-purpose yards to go along with 56 rushing touchdowns in the past three years.

“He's a quiet type of running back that will just pay his dues, know how the game is gong, then next thing you know, he takes it to the house. He pushes and scraps for everything he can get, but at the same time, he knows that 'I'm going to break one,'” Quick said.

Thanks to his disciplined approach on and off the field, Mangus attracted the attention of multiple Division I programs including Notre Dame, Virginia and Virginia Tech.

In the end, it was Head Coach Frank Beamer and the Hokies that won out. And now, thanks to record-setting David Wilson's decision to forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft, Mangus hopes to make an immediate impact in Blacksburg.

“It's time to get to work and just do what I have to do because I'm going there next year trying to earn a starting position,” said Mangus.

Mangus also runs outdoor track in the spring. But between now and graduation, don't expect No. 26 to stray too far from the weight room as he looks to a future in the ACC.
