SNOW HILL, N.C. -- A Greene County deputy was shot and killed in the line of duty Wednesday night.

Sheriff Lemmie Smith says Deputy Jon Willis was responding to a domestic disturbance call at a home in the Brooke Meadow mobile home park, near the Wayne County border.

Smith says when Willis got there, 22-year-old Daniel Myers shot him twice, killing him. Myers then turned the gun on himself.

Willis was 31 years old. He leaves behind two children. The SBI is investigating.

Willis is the third eastern North Carolina officer killed in the line of duty in the past 15 months. Lenoir County detective Allen Pearson died in April of last year and Martin County Deputy Charlie Brown died last December.
