MOUNT AIRY, N.C. -- A family of missionaries is grieving in Surry County after losing their young daughter in a fatal accident.

Officials have identified the mother and father as Matthew and Lana Cretzman. They, along with their 2-year old daughter Madison, are all expected to be OK.

But their 3-year-old daughter Azlynn Cretzman died in the crash.

Investigators said Matthew Cretzman hit a patch of ice along an overpass on Interstate 74 West in Mount Airy, when he lost control of the van he was driving and hit a pole.

"It just compounds the whole incident itself,” said Surry County Emergency Services director John Shelton. “The quality of life these folks lived, and to meet such a tragic event."

Officials say the Cretzmans were missionaries from Ontario, Canada.
